The State of Those On The Right Here at Madison

There is a clear liberal culture forced on students, either by teachers or by the students themselves, and those that are even a little bit on the right are afraid to speak out because of repercussions they may receive. So much for “full creative freedom”.

As the president of the Young Americans for Freedom club, I have clearly seen what it is like to be a conservative person here at James Madison High School, even more so than other people. I have seen the risk that many people take even being associated with me, let alone my club here. People have lost friends since they have seen the things I have posted on my Instagram account and know that a person is associated with me. I have heard that there were people that wanted to come to the club, but they were afraid of the social repercussions. It is hard for me to believe that, as a result of this, that any true neutrality could ever exist in this school. I will admit, there are actions by the administration of this school that give the veneer of neutrality, but they are adequately in service to left-wing students. The student government is riddled with them. The curriculums bend to their will. LGBT, feminist and BLM-like posters don our hallways. Teachers have clearly voiced fears of offending a student because that can risk their pension. The guidance counselors are essentially their lecturing agents. There were at least 3 times where I was called down to the guidance counselor’s office this year because I pissed one of the GSA kids off. This false idea of full creative freedom pushed by this school’s administration is something that needs to be dispelled. If you cannot speak your mind in an educational setting, where ideas are supposed to be challenged (if we’re getting college-ready or whatever, and even then colleges don’t do that, but they should) , this establishment can’t claim itself as a bastion of “educational freedom” when its students are even afraid to say what they think.

With this in mind, we can see that the state of conservatism is absolutely abysmal, to say the least. We are afraid. We want to be able to speak our mind without repercussions. This is especially true for Christian conservatives, not just here at James Madison High School, but across the country. In our debate club here, I have been literally heckled for my views about homosexuality because they were deemed “offensive” by the advisor of the club. In true debate, offense is a risk that people have to take in order to say things that are factually correct. Anything else would be an evasive conversation not worth having because we are too afraid to offend the other side. This is the advice I’d give to those on the right here at Madison: 1) stop being afraid and 2) actually engage in true educational freedom. Don’t be afraid to speak up in class when you hear a student saying some crazy thing about transgenders. Don’t be afraid to be the voice of reason in certain conversations. On top of that, always read more. These students are taking in every ideology these teachers- especially the humanities teachers- talk about without any sort of thought to what they are saying. We can’t really blame them: they expect the teacher to be a trustworthy source of information. However, any sort of in-depth research would at least cast doubts on the veracity of whatever the teacher is teaching. Reading more and sharing that information with your classmates would not only create a more free-thinking populace in the school, you would become more of a free-thinker* yourself. In conclusion, we are the next generation of leaders in our country. If we cannot challenge them in the classroom, how are we even going to challenge them in the outside world? If we want to be a more effective force against the liberals, we must not be afraid to rub bones and get a little dirty. Peace be with you all and Godspeed.

*I personally hate the term “free-thinker” because most times when it is used, it is used to describe someone that completely follows the narratives of the establishment in this country. However, in this instance, the term felt appropriate.
